DISCUSSION about LEADERSHIP VISION

We talked about leadership vision in the discussion on Wednesday. A member found that here are two types of leaders. One is a leader who leads organization strongly, but sometimes does not hear other's opinion. (Strong leader) Another is a leader who consider others a lot, but does not have a tremendous impact as a leader. (Cooperative leader) In conclusion, we need both positive sides of the two leaders, which is our vision toward a leader.

And, I think Shackleton has both. All around, team made decisions by his proposal. He decided even to give up the original purpose (Crossing the Antarctic Continent), which is a really difficult decision to go back home after coming this far. So, it is clear that Shackleton has a strong side as a leader. At the same time, he is a cooperative leader because he consider the members so much, and tried to give some roles to them. (p.26 One of the members who was really depressed about his life was given a new task by Shackleton, then he recovered. ) He is an ideal leader who has both favorable sides.

One of the discussion members said that he was the former type of leaders, that is, he tends to do everything only by himself as a leader. I thought he was completely different from me. As for me, I often tend to let others decide almost everything, and I just follow them because I cannot be responsible for others if there is a mistake in my decision. A risk of misleading my group makes me afraid of being a leader.

I found in this discussion that there is no confidence in myself, so, I need to have a successful experience as a leader in order to build self-belief. Tentatively, I have to try to work as a leader.

My brief steps
Be a leader tentatively→Build self-confidence→Be a Good leader who can lead others aggressively and cooperatively.
